War Room is not a good tool for planning your upcoming work.
Specifically, planning what tasks you want or need to do on which days.
In War Room, above your list of tasks but below the yellow bar that indicates your progress through today’s tasks, I want to add three buttons: “All Tasks”, “Plan”, and “Completed”.
War Room as it currently stands. The middle column is all we really care about for this. There are three new buttons between the scrolling list of tasks and the new task input.
“All Tasks” is the current view that we have. “Completed” is a list of tasks you’ve completed in the last day, last week, and last month.
“Plan” is the idea that’s explained in detail below.
Backing up a bit: a new “plan” button on every task would be added next to “today” and “due”.
When clicked, a popup would show a small list of days, asking what day you plan to do this task on. The days would start with today’s weekday, and include 7 days into the future.
The kind of popup I envision — but with “Monday”, “Tuesday”, etc. instead of these options.
When you’re done doing “plan” on a few tasks, you can switch to the Plan tab.
This diagram crudely tries to make the point that we’re concerned about the middle portion of the app that’s below the new task input, which is blacked out in the diagram.
This screen would include 7 sections, for each of the weekdays (starting with today). You could drag a task from one day to the other, based on which day you plan to do it on.
Tasks in Plan are also in All Tasks. They don’t get moved from one tab to another; Plan is just a way of seeing a subset of your tasks (and in a different layout). If you no longer want to plan to do a task, you can click the × and remove it from the Plan view, so it’ll only be in All Tasks.
Tasks that are in the “Sunday” section will be marked as “today” (yellow button on a task) when Sunday rolls around.
